The Akron-Canton Airport has set an all-time passenger record this year with more than 1.56 million passengers as of Wednesday.
By day’s end, nearly 1.6 million people will have traveled through the Akron-Canton Airport — a record passenger count, according to a posting on the airport’s website.
The airport notes a total of 1,564,000 passengers, which exceeds the all-time tally of 1,560,031 set last year.
“This is an amazing day for us,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “We have worked tirelessly to offer the most relaxing airport experience possible while our airline partners offer the lowest average fares in Ohio or Pennsylvania. It is a great combination.”
The airport is celebrating the record-setting year with special activities. There’s a photo booth where customers can get free photo strips and cookies.
In addition to the all-time record, the airport said November was its busiest month, with more than 143,000 passengers choosing CAK. Monthly passenger records were set nine out of 11 months this year, the website said. For the decade, passenger figures have doubled.
