LOST IN SUBURBIA: The rain in Spain stays mainly in the basement - Oftentimes when you have a plumbing emergency, you can’t actually get a plumber to come quickly unless you have visual proof that your house has turned into an ark and is floating away. Fortunately for us, when an outside faucet broke and started spraying water into the yard, we determined that it could probably wait until the plumber got through his other appointments to come over and shut it off. DR MURRAY FEINGOLD: Are eggs all they're cracked up to be? - There has been an ongoing controversy concerning whether or not eggs are associated with causing an increase in cholesterol levels, thus raising the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Many scientific studies have been published on this subject and they come to different conclusions. By Dr. Murray Feingold, MetroWest, Mass.

DR. JEFF HERSH: A matter of taste - Last week’s column focused on the sense of smell, noting the huge interrelationship of smell and taste; in fact over three quarters of taste disorders are actually limitations in the ability to smell normally. The deep connection between taste and smell is illustrated by the cinnamon taste test; pinch your nose and put a little bit of cinnamon (liquid cinnamon is best, but powdered will work) on the tip of your tongue, being sure not to accidentally smell it. By Dr. Jeff Hersh, MetroWest, Mass.

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER REVIEW: Wouldn’t it have been easier just to call this “Jack and the Beanstalk”? It’s about a poor young lad whose mom sends him to town to sell their cow, but he instead trades it for some magic beans, which grow into a big beanstalk, which he climbs, and arrives at a place where he does battle with a giant, etc. Well, OK, in this version he’s selling his horse, and those magic beans (referred to as “holy relics”) have a history behind them, and they’ve added a damsel in distress, along with a population of giants up in the sky, not just one. But it’s still “Jack and the Beanstalk.” By Ed Symkus, GHNS.

MICHELLE TEHEUX: ‘Sequestration’ just the latest reality show - I’m not a particular fan of TV anyway, but the two TV genres I especially cannot stand are “reality” TV and soap operas.
