  • KEY ACTION  The Green Board of Education honored state pole vaulting champ Morgan Estes with a special plaque at its June board meeting. The award was presented by Superintendent Mike Nutter to Estes who placed first in the recent state finals, becoming the third Green girl pole vaulter to win the state title under coach Dan Gourley. Morgan, a junior, took the title with a vault of 12’5”, beating out her closest rival by nine inches.
    Earlier in the evening a special welcome ceremony was held for new Athletic director Bruce Johnson.
    Johnson, who will replace outgoing director Mark Pfaff, met with administrators, coaches and parents prior to the board meeting.
    OTHER ACTION
    The board approved the final payment of bills and appropriation of funds for the year by the treasurer. It also approved appropriations of funds for the first quarter of the 2013 fiscal year, not to exceed 25 percent of the final appropriations of the fiscal year 2012 per fund. The board also accepted the donation of four new dell Inspiration 5100 laptop computers from New Innovations valued at approximately $1,000.
    The board approved the consent calendar for the hiring of both certified and classified staff. Contracts were also approved for services with Therapy in Motion for various services to paid for under Title VIB grant funds.
    Approval was also given for Exchange of Service Agreement with Ashland University for Field Experience and Internships for the 2012-13 school year.
    Approval was given to adopt the updated Ohio Special Education Model Policies and Procedures from the Ohio Department of Education. In their final action, the board approved the contract with PSI Affiliates, Inc for various nursing services from 2012-13 through 2014-15 school years.
    St. Francis de Sales parent Keith Leonard spoke during the public comment section about his recent experience with the school in helping to solve a busing problem. He was particularly complimentary of the effort by Director of Operations Wendall Jackson in solving a bus problem related to transportation in the morning for St. Francis students, along with the help provided by Nutter and Board President Bob Campbell in resolving the issue.
    Board members had a variety of comments. Foster congratulated Estes for her outstanding accomplishment and thanked everyone for a wonderful school year. Mark Herdlick also complimented Estes, welcomed Johnson, and thanked New Innovations for their generous donation. Connie Leonard thanked the Suburbanite for a recent editorial letter which appeared in the paper. Lynn Wiggins echoed Herdlick’s sentiments and thanked the staff, administration and teachers for all their hard work during the year. Bob Campbell thanked the community for all their support and talked about Camp Reliance, the Junior Air Force ROTC summer camp held at Boettler Park the previous week, which was attended by 60 ROTC cadets.
