  • A one-vehicle accident on East Turkeyfoot Road snarled traffic, took out powerlines and toppled a street light mast Tuesday morning.
A dump truck, going westbound on East Turkeyfoot around 8:10 a.m., had its bed raised, and connected with the wires on telephone poles, breaking several of them off. It then hit the street light mast at the intersection of East Turkeyfoot Road and Fortuna Drive, in front of Chapel Hill Christian School. The dump truck came to a stop in the intersection.
The driver, of A. Jacobs Trucking, had lacerations on his back but was not injured. He declined comment.
Green fire and police were on the scene, closing East Turkeyfoot Road in both directions.  He declined to comment.
Service Director Randy Montiff said they need to cut power to the area and will need to get more hep out to take down and fix the street llgihts.
    UPDATE 10:45
Montiff said that they expect the road to be closed most of the day.
Green City Engineer Paul Pickett said that although the cause of the accident is unknown, one possibility is that if the hydralics of the bed was still on, bumping the lever would cause it to rise. Since the bed was was empty, it would only take between 20 and 30 seconds to rise up and it would be easy for the driver not to know it was up until the bed came in contact with the wires of the telephone poles.
