As most of you are aware the Coventry Local Schools has received an offer of $11 million dollars towards the construction of a new state of the art 21st century high school building from the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission. As a result, we are placing a 5.99 mill bond/PI levy on the Aug. 7 ballot.
As most of you are aware, the Coventry Local Schools has received an offer of $11 million dollars towards the construction of a new state-of-the-art 21st century high school building from the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission. As a result, we are placing a 5.99 mill bond/PI levy on the Aug. 7 ballot.
When this issue passes, we will be able to reduce our number of school buildings down to three, all which will be located within a quarter of a mile from each other. The new high school building will be located on the current Erwine property and will house grades 9-12. The current middle school on Cormany Road will be renovated with a new roof, new windows, new entrance ways, new heating and air and upgraded security.
This building will be for students in grades 6-8. The current high school will also be renovated into a K-5 elementary building with a new gymnasium as well. There are also plans for new tennis courts and outside basketball courts of which the location has not been determined. This bond/PI issue will save us close to $600,000 by eliminating annual cost of repairs and maintenance to our current buildings. We will also be able to pay down debt and establish a permanent fund for necessary repairs and preventive maintenance.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and if we are not successful, the monies go to another school district in the state. We have a great levy group working on this project. Terri Pfaff, Kim Blackert and Jeff SKaggs are the tri-chairs of our committee and have a great plan in place to get this thing passed in August. We need all the help we can get and you can assist us in several ways: 1.) Please look on the levy website at www.supportcoventry.com. You can get all the latest information, ask questions, review frequently asked questions and sign up as a supporter. We would ask that you direct your family friends and relatives to this site. 2.) You can attend a levy meeting. Levy meetings are held on Monday nights from 7-8:30 p.m. in the high school media center. We will continue our meetings throughout the summer. The exception is Memorial Day Monday, we will meet that week on Tuesday. 3.) You can make a donation to the levy. Any amount is appreciated. We have a number of groups that have worked to raise money for billboards and we are hoping to get at least three billboards up in July. We have secured funding ($750) for one at this point. If you know a group or business that might be willing to help us please let us know. 4.) You can make sure you are registered to vote and that you exercise your right to vote on Aug. 7. Every vote counts. If you are going to be out of town we ask that you make sure to get an absentee ballot prior to leaving town. 5.) Sign up on the website for a yard sign. 6.) Talk to your friends and neighbors about this issue and how it can be a big positive for our school and community.
