  • The Griffin brothers soon will be looking to win another league title together in basketball.
Jackson High School senior Miles Griffin has committed to the University of Mount Union, joining his older brother Stevie. Mount Union is coached by Mike Fuline, the former head coach at Jackson.
Miles, a 6-foot-2 combo guard, earned All-Stark County honors as a junior before a knee injury ended his senior season after just five games this past winter. He had surgery on the knee in February.
“He’ll be ready to go by next season,” second-year Jackson head coach Tim Debevec said. “He’s working hard on his rehab. He’s gonna bounce back and should be able to contribute next season.”
A three-year starter, Miles helped Jackson win Federal League titles as a sophomore and junior. Stevie starred on that league championship team in 2010-11, Fuline’s last year as Jackson’s head coach.
Miles led the Polar Bears in rebounds and assists as a junior when he averaged 14.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. He also was third in the county in rebounding that season.
Miles joins a Mount Union program that made a nice run in the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament under Fuline, who guided Jackson to the 2010 Division I state title.
The Purple Raiders, who featured just two seniors this past season, reached the OAC title game for the first time since 2004. It was Fuline’s second season at Mount Union.
Stevie started at forward for the Purple Raiders and averaged 12.1 points per game as a sophomore this past season, receiving honorable mention All-OAC. Mount Union also will feature the last two OAC Freshman of the Year honorees — sophomore-to-be Jarrett Ruffin and junior-to-be Nate Jacubec.
