The Manchester Local Schools Board of Education is looking for a new board member now that LeAnn Nichols has stepped down.
The search to replace one Manchester Local Schools Board of Education member is underway and school officials hope to have a the new member in place by the end of April.
The vacancy will be filled following a majority vote of the remaining Board members.
On April 1, LeAnn Nichols announced she would step down from her position with the board.
“It is with deep regret, especially at such a critical time for the board, that I must resign my seat,” Nichols wrote in her letter to the Manchester school board and administration.
Nichols went on to explain that her resignation has to do with the sale of her house and her family’s re-location to Centerburg. The family is moving to be closer to her husband Ron’s Columbus-based concrete business.
“It has been my great honor to serve with the current members and all the members over these many years and terms,” said Nichols, 53, who has served on the board of education since 2004. “I certainly know that it was a calling, for in my desire to serve the children and this community there is no better platform to be able to do both.”
Superintendent Sam Reynolds said that sentiment made Nichols a vital member of the school board.
“Her decision to run for the school board was to improve education in the community,” Reynolds said. “Sometimes, people run because of one issue – they don’t like a teacher, or a coach. But LeAnn never had that kind of agenda. … She is a genuine and good person and we are going to miss her.”
Nichols said she will always be a Panther.
“Ron and I raised our three daughters as Manchester Panthers and we know the education that they received here was the platform for their success in college and beyond,” she said. “Now our grandchildren are Panthers and we will all forever be proud of the red and black.”
The Board of Education is seeking qualified candidates to fill Nichols’ unexpired term which ends in December. Those interested should submit a dated letter of request and resume to Richard Sponseller, Board President, 6075 Manchester Road, Akron, Ohio 44319.
