Bond was set today at $2 million for the 18-year-old Akron man accused of murdering a New Franklin couple with a sledgehammer.
Shawn Eric Ford appeared today in Judge Christine Croce’s Barberton Municipal courtroom for an initial hearing. He is facing two counts each of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and one count of grand theft. Because legal counsel had yet to be appointed, Ford’s hearing was extended.
He is due back in court April 10 and is currently being held in the Summit County jail.
On April 2, the bodies of Jeffrey Schobert , 56, and Margaret "Peg" Schobert, 59, were discovered in their Rex Lake Drive home by construction workers who were remodeling the house. According to medical examiners’ reports, the couple had been bludgeoned with a large sledgehammer that was reportedly found at the scene. Money was reportedly stolen from the Schoberts’ home along with the couple’s vehicle.
The Schoberts have two daughters. Ford was the boyfriend of the couple’s youngest daughter.
