To obtain an application for either of these programs or to learn more, contact Harmony Ramunno at 800.686.2511 ext. 6269 or hramunno@neomed.edu. Applications are also available online at http://www.neomed.edu/admissions/programs.
Pathways to Pharmacy students are provided with a look at career options through mentorship, enrichment programs and industry exposure. The goal is to increase the number of students who graduate from high school and pursue pharmacy as a career.
The summer program offers work-based learning experiences, personal development workshops, math and science enrichment activities and pharmacy-based lab activities. Students will become familiar with basic pharmacy terminologies, gain understanding of the pharmacy profession and learn the necessary requirements to matriculate into the College of Pharmacy at NEOMED
Applications will be accepted through May 3 for the 2013 program, which will be held June 24-28 on the NEOMED campus. Only current high school sophomores and juniors (at least 16 years of age) with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and at least a 90 percent school attendance rate will be considered for the program.
HealthSuccess is a selective enrichment program designed to help prepare high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors interested in studying medicine or pharmacy. Participants will learn college readiness skills, teamwork, medicine and pharmacy career information, the importance of professionalism, and how to prepare to apply to the University while interacting with medicine and pharmacy students, physicians, pharmacists and other health care professionals.
Site visits also will occur throughout the program, allowing students to become familiar with the associated hospitals, pharmacies and universities that partner with NEOMED.
HealthSuccess programs are typically offered once a month on Saturdays, September through May. Applications will be accepted through July 26. To be considered for participation, students must reside in the greater Akron, Canton, Cleveland or Youngstown areas, must currently be enrolled in eighth- through 10th-grade, have a grade point average of 3.5 or better, and complete an application process. Other consideration will be given to students who will be first-generation college students, as well as those from rural or urban environments that identify with a group that is racially/ethnically underrepresented in health care professions.
