  • Officials from the Cleveland office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating a bomb found in Coventry Township Jan. 4.
Summit County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad defused the pipe bomb in the 1400 block of Homewood Avenue. Sheriff’s investigator Bill Holland said a man walking his dog discovered the object in front of a residence at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“It was a big one too, about 10 inches by 2 inches,” Holland said. “The man who found it just looked down and realized what it was. He put it in a newspaper box and called us. It was a functioning pipe bomb that the bomb squad made safe at the scene.”
Holland said there was no known history of disputes in the neighborhood near the address where the pipe bomb was discovered.
Anyone who finds a suspicious package should not attempt to move or inspect it, Holland said,  and is asked to contact their local police department or the Summit County Sheriff.
The ATF is urging anyone with information regarding the pipe bomb call their Cleveland field office at  216-573-8100.
