  • The Cincinnati Zoo says its 11-year-old cheetah has set a new world record as speediest land mammal by completing a 100-meter dash in less than 6 seconds.
The zoo says the cheetah named Sarah covered 100 meters in 5.95 seconds, beating her previous record of 6.13 seconds set in 2009. The new mark reportedly was set while the cheetah was being photographed for National Geographic magazine.
She was clocked at a top speed of 61 mph.
The zoo says the cat’s time was several seconds faster than the quickest 100-meter run by Olympian and world-record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica.
