  • Summer is heating up and the annual Community Celebration in Jackson Township is kicking off on June 27 and will run through June 30.
Get ready for fun, food games, children’s rides and live entertainment in the North Park on Fulton Road in Jackson Township.
There will be 20 food vendors selling foods for every palate. A sampling includes Duroso’s with their famous Italian sausage, John’s Gyro King, Freeman’s Fine Foods offering sweet corn and baked potatoes, Tim and Peg’s caramel apple chips, lemonade and corn dogs, Holiday Enterprises with elephant ears and corn dogs and Destefano’s with apple dumplings, Greek fries and strawberry shortcake.
The car show on Friday evening will include hot rods and vintage cars. It is a judged show with antique cars, motorcycles, pickup trucks and antique police cars.
This year the car show will be in the parking lots by the Jackson Township Branch of the Stark County District Library and the tennis courts.
The 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be played on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on the courts next to the library. It is a “make it and take it” game where players that make a shot get the ball back.
There will be three-man teams competing and the first team to 21 points by two wins, capping out at 25 points. This year, participants have to have finished  ninth grade or older to play.
The winning team gets their entrance fee refunded and their names announced on stage before the fireworks.
The 5K Night Glow race will take place in the neighborhood around the North and South Parks in Jackson Township. Awards will be given to the top five overall male and female participants and the top four males and females in each of the 14 age categories.
The 5K walk awards will take place on the same course starting at the same time as the 5K run. Participants are asked to use the honor system by walking the course - no running.
Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female participants and the top three male and females in each of the 7 age categories. Prizes include medals for the age group winners and plagues for the overall winners.
The Children’s 1-mile Fun Run awards include a t-shirt, glow stick and a ribbon. The 5K run and walk will finish in front of the main stage of the Jackson Community Celebration.
Awards will be given from the stage area. Registration is required for all participants.
Bates Amusement Rides will provide the rides. The township has been using Bates for the past several years.
“We think that Bates Amusement offers the best rides in Ohio and we’re happy to have them again at this year’s Community Celebration,” said Dave Ruwadi, park maintenance and grounds foreman.
