  • A Massillon man charged in the shooting death of his 65-year-old wife Saturday night at Akron General Medical Center is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Akron Municipal Court.
John Wise, 66, of 227 Hawthorne Ave. NE, allegedly shot his wife of 45 years, Barbara, in the hospital’s intensive care unit at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to Akron police. Wise remains in police custody and is being held on one count of attempted aggravated murder. Police have said the shooting may have been a “mercy type of killing.” Hospital officials say Barbara Wise was in critical condition at the hospital prior to the shooting.
The charge likely will be increased to a murder charge at some point, pending an investigation by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to police. An autopsy for Barbara Wise is scheduled for later this morning.
Currently, Wise is going through the booking process at the Summit County Jail, Akron police Capt. Daniel Zampelli.
