ONE FOR THE MONEY
Katherine Heigl’s decision to swap her scrubs on “Grey’s Anatomy” for a lucrative movie career is looking about as bad as trading Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson. As proof, I offer this alleged comedy based on Janet Evanovich’s novels in which she plays a sexy bounty hunter on the tail of her high school crush. It’s so bad the studio won’t even prescreen it for critics.
MAN ON A LEDGE
Sam Worthington plays a disgraced ex-cop who escapes from prison and heads straight for Manhattan’s Roosevelt Hotel, where he perches himself on a narrow ledge some 20 stories up, threatening to jump if his name isn’t cleared. Elizabeth Banks and Ed Harris co-star.
Liam Neeson has become a box office lion in winter with “Taken” and “Unknown,” and looks to continue that trend with this men-vs.-wolves thriller set in the days following a plane crash in a remote, frozen section of Alaska.
Oscar nominations for Glenn Close and Janet McTeer should help boost the prospects of this little indie about women pretending to be men in order to secure employment in 19th-century Ireland. Mia Wasikowska, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Aaron Johnson co-star.
Here’s your chance to see the overwhelming favorite to win this year’s Oscar for best foreign language film. It’s a doozy, too, beginning with an Iranian couple seeking a marital separation and ending in a place you never expected to go.
Director Frederick Wiseman’s documentary goes behind the scenes of one of Paris’ most popular strip clubs, The Crazy Horse cabaret.
