White and other light-colored clothing are a natural for summer. But these garments also tend to show stains.
How can you beat those spots and keep white fabrics looking fresh? The experts from the Whirlpool Institute of Fabric Science offer these stain-fighting tips:
-- Remove excess stain or soil using a smooth object, like a spoon or the back of a butter knife. -- Quickly blot stains with a light-colored cloth and club soda.
-- Pack a stain pen in your picnic basket to quickly and easily remove a stain.
-- Soak garment in a solution of color-safe bleach and warm water before machine washing; that should improve whitening.
-- Treat the stain with a pre-treatment or use an in-wash stain-removal booster.
-- Wash the garment in the warmest water allowed by the care label.
-- Recheck the garment for stains before placing it in the dryer. If needed, retreat and wash again.
-- For white garments with colored areas, use a dye-catching detergent or sheet.
