This week’s suggestions include watching “The Smurfs,” celebrating NASA’s birthday, observing National Lasagna Day and more.

1. The always-popular Smurfs hit the big screen this week in the PG-rated “The Smurfs.” This family-friendly flick stars Hank Azaria, Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen George Lopez and a host of other big names. And of course Papa Smurf and co. Also out this week is “Cowboys & Aliens,” a PG-13 alien thriller/Western starring Daniel Craig, and “Crazy, Stupid, Love.,” a PG-13 movie starring Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling and Julianne Moore.

2. On July 29, 1958, NASA was created. Celebrate the space agency by heading to the official website, http://www.nasa.gov, or by visiting a planetarium if one is near you. The NASA site has plenty to research and enjoy – you can see highlights of the space shuttle program, see how the Mars mission is going and much more. If this weekend isn’t cloudy, you could have a family event in the backyard where you look at stars and planets.

3. Friday is National Lasagna Day, a delicious holiday that no one knows the origins of. Whatever the case, whip up a tray of this tasty dish, or head to your favorite Italian restaurant for some lasagna.

4. Another food holiday is this weekend - National Cheesecake Day. This one is Saturday, and you can celebrate by making your own cheesecake or going out to get some. Do you have a favorite cheesecake recipe? Share it with us!

5. If you’re looking to stay inside this weekend and watch some sports, Major League Baseball, NASCAR and soccer leagues are in action. Check your favorite league’s websites for schedule details, or check your local TV listings.
