  • As the “spokesdog” for Uniontown Company, ForeverLawn, Gibson stood tall. According to the Guinness Book of World Records he was the world’s tallest dog at 42.2 inches high. Standing on his hind legs with his paws on talk show host Oprah’s shoulders, he measured seven-foot, two-inches tall – one inch taller than Shaq.
Unfortunately, this gentle giant, a Harlequin Great Dane, passed away from canine bone cancer in August. “We had met Gibson at a trade show and his owner, Sandy Hall had purchased some of our K9 Grass,” said K-9 Grass Brand Manager for ForeverLawn, Ken Karmie.
Hall suggested the company use Gibson as their “spokesdog.”

“Gibson and Sandy loved our product,” he said.
Wherever Gibson traveled he wore a K9 Grass bandanna around his neck. Gibson was well-traveled as he appeared on the Oprah show, the Ellen Show and the Tonight Show. Hall is most proud of his certification and work as a therapy and special needs training dog. When he traveled by air he would ride in the plane with Hall and she would get a seat for herself and Gibson would get the “two” seats beside her.

“The more I learned about Sandy and Gibson I knew what a nice dog he was and it was just a great fit for us,” said Karmie. “Gibson was the face of K9 Grass.”
Gibson’s cancer began in his front paw. Karmie said that initially they removed his front leg and they thought he was going to be better; however they found that the cancer had spread throughout his body. Even while he was in his battle with cancer, Hall was taking on the fight of canine cancer.
After Gibson passed away from osteosarcoma Hall developed “Three Paws for the Cause”, a canine cancer initiative.
“Sandy is speaking out about her experiences with canine cancer and is also planning a bus tour to visit pet facilities and expos around the United Stated to spread awareness of canine cancer,” said ForeverLawn Marketing Director, Donna Kent.
ForeverLawn joined forces with Hall by setting up a Web site, www.k9emporium.com with dog- related items that can be ordered to support the canine cancer cause.
“We came up with little medallions for Gibson. There is one that has “three paws for the cause” since he had only three legs. We thought that was a good slogan,” said Karmie.
The company helps the cause by purchasing items for the site and donating them to Hall.
The tradition will go on through Gibson’s nephew, 1-year old Brewster who is being slated as the world’s largest puppy. He is already 38 inches tall which is just 4.6 inches shorter than Gibson was when he earned his title at two years old. He weighs 165 pounds which is 40 pounds more than Gibson weighed on his first birthday. Hall believes that Brewster will match Gibson’s height or exceed it.
Page 2 of 2 - “Brewster is traveling with Sandy to help bring attention and awareness to this disease,” said Kent.
She has teamed up with Morris Animal Foundation to work together to find a cure and raise awareness. Through public appearances and media exposure they plan to help people understand the disease and teach them what can be done to detect the early signs of canine cancer and help find a cure through fund raising and research.
Brewster has followed in his uncles pawsteps. He now wears the K9 Grass bandanna wherever he goes and he will continue to be the “spokesdog” for the company.
ForeverLawn National Headquarters is located at 11730 Cleveland Ave. in Uniontown. They have 45 dealerships across the country. The K9 Grass division produces K9 Grass which is a product used in kennels and backyards alike. It is turf for dogs which has antimicrobial blades that fight odor and bacteria and liquid waste goes right through to the ground underneath.
“If you let your dog outside, it gets mud on its paws and tracks in the house. K9 Grass separates the dog and from the mud,” said Karmie.
There are K9 Grass mats available and the latest product K9 Potty, an indoor facility for dogs.
ForeverLawn has done the turf at the Lake High School football field and recently placed more than 15,000 square feet in the Hall of Fame Fitness Center, a facility in Canton for indoor sports.
Gibson’s story does not end here as he has co-authored his own book, “Gibson Speaks.” It gives insight to the tall tales of his life and his journies.
