  • United Way celebrates successful campaign, kicks off another

  • United Way of Greater Stark County celebrated its successful 2011 and took steps toward a new year Wednesday morning during its annual meeting and awards ceremony.

  • Jeffrey Fisher, Gerard Mastroianni and Dave Waikem were among the award winners recognized Wednesday morning during the United Way of Greater Stark County’s annual meeting breakfast and campaign awards.
    The event was held in the Barrette Business Center at Walsh University.
    Chesapeake Energy was given the New Campaign of the Year Award for its efforts during the 2011 fundraising drive. New to Stark County and the United Way, the company raised $32,638 through employee donations and matching company funds. Accepting the award was Jennifer Lorenzi, an administrative assistant for Chesapeake.
    Elizabeth Engels, community affairs manager at Timken Co., and Gayle Taylor, volunteer for the American Red Cross’ Stark County Chapter, were not available to accept their Gold Key awards.
    Melissa Seibert, regional manager for the American Red Cross Services to Armed Forces, accepted the award for Taylor. Engles thanked everyone in attendance via video.
    The United Way’s Fleur de Lis campaign award was given to Lisa and Steve Gregory, the Alexi de Tocqueville Society co-chairs; while the DeHoff emerging Philanthropist of Stark County Award was given to Trina Farnsworth, manager of client services at Timken Co.
    Fisher of Fishers Foods; Mastroianni of Alliance Ventures; and Waikem of Waikem Auto Family, each received a CEO of the Year Award.
    “Each of us here today make up the united part of what we do,” said Maria Heege, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Stark County. “We unite with caring, local community partners who help people right here in Stark County. What a privilege to spend the morning with such amazing volunteers. I am humbled by the selfless way they serve others.”
    Chairing the 2012 fundraising campaign is Tom Swidarski, president and chief executive officer of Diebold.
    Jacqueline DeGarmo, chairman of the executive committee, was emcee for the event.
