Jackson Township trustees
KEY ACTION: Trustees approved 2013 budgets for the fire department for $10,127,191 and for the highway division of the public works department for $9,625,059. The board also approved a health plan renewal for all full-time township employees beginning Jan. 1.
The approved health plan has a projected 8 percent increase due to higher costs. The plan will remain with HCC Life, the current carrier, and will make a network change to Ohio Health Choice with PPO Connect from Medical Mutual Ohio.
DISCUSSION: Trustee James Walters said the board will consider several options — including a possible levy devoted to the park system — in the wake of voters’ rejection of a 2.2- mill levy for parks and roads.
Walters said the trustees will be discussing possible layoffs in the parks and roads, administration, legal, maintenance and zoning departments among other cost reductions as they complete their budget reviews during the next several meetings.
• Approved street lighting for Aberdeen Glen #5. The $10.55 cost will be added to each homeowner’s property tax bill in the area.
• Adopted a recommendation from the Jackson Township Zoning Commission to deny a request by LAT Enterprises to change the zoning classification from rural residential (R-R) to multi-family residential (R-4) at a 1.49-acre parcel on the east side of Lorraine Avenue, approximately 430 feet south of Portage Street NW.
• An auction of township property is scheduled for Dec. 15 at Skipco in Canal Fulton starting at 10 a.m.
UP NEXT: Meets at 5 p.m. Nov. 27 at Jackson Township Hall.
