  • Recently returned from Washington D.C., Emily Beuter said she got more out of going to the 57th presidential inauguration than just being closer to President Barack Obama.
“It was history in the making and whether you agree with him or not, just being there is exciting,” said the 15-year-old daughter of Chip and Lori Beuter of Plain Township. “It was a new experience for me, for sure.”
Emily was nominated by Larry Snyder, an eighth- grade history teacher at Oakwood Middle School, to attend the inauguration. The program was run by the High School Presidential Inaugural Conference.
“There were a lot of people there, it was really crowded,” she said. “Nearly 2,000 kids participated in this program. You definitely have to be outgoing because you are there with all these new people. There is no family or anything so you have to be able to meet new people and make friends.”
While there, she heard Condoleezza Rice and Gen. Wesley Clark, Nick Clooney and Bob Woodward.
“That was pretty interesting. I really liked the speakers.”
Remembering a comment from Nick Clooney, she repeated, “‘When I die, I already know what I’ll be known for — brother of Rosemary Clooney, famous singer, and father of George Clooney.’ ’’
    ON THAT NOTE ...
It is time for me to sign off on Around Town.
On Feb. 18, I will be debuting a new column yet to be named. It will be more of a social column with an emphasis on the happenings around town-especially in the areas of fundraising and nonprofit organizations. It also will include photos and videos of events.
With that in mind, I am looking for a good title for it and will appreciate any offerings from my readers on what it should be named. We all will find out what name was chosen when it premieres on the 18th. Please send your suggestions to denise.sautters@cantonrep.com by next Friday.
In the meantime, news and information that has been written about in the Around Town column will continue, just in a different format and by someone else. Items of interest, acts of kindness, anecdotes and honors can be sent to yourlife@cantonrep.com or mailed to Around Town, The Repository, 500 Market Ave. S, Canton, OH 44702. Information also can be faxed to 330-454-5745.
It has been an honor to have worked with all of you for the past several years. Thank you for your readership and I hope you will continue to follow me. If I can help you, contact me. My number and email address are not changing — denise.sautters@cantonrep.com or 330-580-8321.
