For more than 70 years, the Akron Zips football team called the Rubber Bowl home.

Some places can stand the test of time, but in this instance, the team needed a new stadium that was not only closer to home, but something that wasn't an eye sore.

This Saturday against Morgan State, the Zips will officially unveil their new home, Infocision Stadium.

Take one look at it, and the difference between this and the Rubber Bowl is night and day.

The turf is the same crushed rubber used on their practice fields, giving it the combination feel of both grass and turf.

The stadium sits below street level, with a similar feel to the stadium at the University of Virginia.

There is not a bad seat in the house, and judging by ticket sales so far, there won't be many empty ones. Season ticket sales are more than triple of past years, and 33 of the 35 suites have been booked for three years.

The press box is a far cry from the one old, being able to not only house more than 50 media people, but have individual rooms for radio and TV without feeling crushed up against one another. There are party decks for people to rent out, and the suites are available to those who purchased them at any time for business meetings on any day.

Coach J.D. Brookhart said he loves the new stadium, but does not feel added pressure to win now. The pressure of winning is there every week regardless of a new stadium, if it's his first year coaching or his tenth year coaching.

Tickets are still available for the opener at 2 p.m. This Saturday. Fans can get tickets by phone by calling 1-888-99-AKRON, 330-972-6920, email at, or stop at the ticket office at the JAR Arena on campus Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. To 5 p.m,
