The Stark Area Regional Transit Authority began its new bus route to Cleveland on Monday.
Nearly 40 passengers — including as many as 20 military veterans — took advantage of the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority’s new bus route to Cleveland on Monday.
The new Route 4 will take passengers from Canton to Cleveland three times a day Monday through Friday. Stops include the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center’s Wade Park campus and downtown Cleveland at West Prospect and West Superior avenues, where riders can access Cleveland’s regional transit system as well as attractions such as the Gateway District, Horseshoe Casino, Progressive Field, Tower City and Quicken Loans Arena. Each bus can accommodate 32 seated passengers and two wheelchairs.
Veterans who register with the Stark County Veterans Service Commission can ride for free through a $72,000 annual contract between SARTA and the county service commission, which had been spending more money to take veterans to their medical appointments in county-owned vans. SARTA also will offer bus service to the Akron and Parma VA clinics for veterans who register for an appointment through the service commission. Veterans may schedule their ride calling 330-451-7457, ext. 3.
Nonveteran passengers must pay a $2.50 fare for a one way trip or $5 round trip for the Cleveland bus service.
