  • Panthers miss out on district repeat
    NORTON 55, MANCHESTER 40 Despite Kayci Krzynowek’s 15 points, the Panthers were unable to defend their Division II district title at Lake High School. The loss also snapped their 15-game winning streak that dated to December.
    Karley Dougherty added 11 points for Manchester.
    Cara Cook led Norton with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Nina Dzombic scored 10 points.
    Warriors fall again in final
    CANFIELD 40, WEST BRANCH 37 A scoreless second quarter doomed the Warriors in the Division II district final game at Fitch High School. An 11-9 lead turned into an 18-11 deficit for West Branch when it was shut out by Canfield in the second.
    The Warriors outscored Canfield 26-22 the rest of the way, but could not pull out the win. It’s the second straight year Canfield (25-1) edged West Branch in a district final, winning last year’s game 42-40.
    The Warriors did hand Canfield its only loss of this season, 59-52, on Dec. 3 in Canfield.
    Amanda Linhart scored 11 points Saturday to lead West Branch.
    Sabrina Mangapora was the leading scorer for Canfield with 14 points, while Rachel Tinkey scored 10.
    Plybon leads Red Riders to title
    ORRVILLE 58, CENTRAL CATHOLIC 51 Senior Hannah Plybon scored 28 points to lead the Red Riders to a Division III district title at Triway High School. The University of Akron-bound guard, who is Wayne County’s career scoring leader, hit 4 3-pointers and made 10 of 11 foul shots.
    Aaliyah Dotson, who is headed to Florida Atlantic, scored 24 points to lead the Crusaders. Hannah Miller added 16 points and a team-high six rebounds for Central.
    The Crusaders trailed by nine at halftime, but cut the Orrville lead to two entering the fourth. Orrville came back to outscore the Crusaders 23-18 in the final period to secure the win.
