  • Lake 132-pounder Zac Carson dominated Strongsville’s Ricky Perez, scoring a 9-4 decision, and GlenOak heavyweight Corey Siegfried banged out a 3-2 decision to earn berths in tonight’s Division I semifinals at the Schottenstein Center.
Carson too Perez down twice in the first period, the last with a second left. He led just 3-2 after two, though, before hitting two more takedowns, the latter with a second left again.
Siegfried followed Carson’s lead. With just under a minute gone in his match against Jacob Barton of Lakota East, he slid around for the two-pointer that was the difference.
“The first takedown in a heavyweight match is so big,” GlenOak coach Marcus Lambdin said.
Barton, ranked fifth by Josh Lowe, spent the third period in vain looking for the winning takedown.
Lake freshman Andrew McNally needed a few more seconds to advance, but the clock saved Perrysburg junior J.P. Newton in his 10-7 decision.
McNally had him in a cradle twice in the final 20 seconds, getting three back points the first time and looked to have him stuck momentarily when the match ended.
McNally's furious comeback came after he trailed 8-0 after one period, when he almost got pinned.
