  • The driver involved in a Saturday crash that resulted in the death of a Canton woman is now facing more serious charges.
Christopher W. Dinger, 27, of 1712 Brooks Ave. SW, was charged Tuesday with aggravated vehicular homicide. That is a first-degree felony that can bring up to 11 years in prison with a conviction.
He also faces felony charges of failure to comply with a police officer and drug possession.
Investigators say Dinger was speeding and fleeing police when he crashed in the 1700 block of Tuscarawas St. E around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
His passenger, Stephanie A. Casto, 21, was thrown from the vehicle and died Monday, investigators said.
Dinger’s attorney, Jeffrey Jakmides, said his client has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Municipal Court and will await the grand jury decision on the charges.
He declined to comment on the facts of the case.
Highway Patrol troopers said Dinger ran from the crash scene but was later caught. They said he had a blood alcohol level of 0.088 percent, just above Ohio’s legal driving limit of 0.08 percent.
Troopers also said they found marijuana and crack cocaine in the vehicle’s glove box.
Casto left behind three daughters ages 5 and under. A memorial fund is being established for them with donations being taken through FirstMerit Bank. The children’s father died in 2011.
Family members said Casto’s dying wish was to help others, and she did by donating her organs.
