Traffic is backed up, but no roads are closed, said Canton Police Lt. James Cole.
“If motorists can avoid that area at this time, it would be advisable,” Cole said just before noon.
    No life-threatening injuries were reported.
Dispatchers with the Ohio Highway Patrol said troopers were also responding to eight crashes around noon. The wrecks were occurring throughout the county.
Most crashes were believed to be weather-related.
Heavy snow was reported at the Akron Canton Airport at noon, according to the National Weather Service website. The temperature was 13 degrees with winds out of the southeast at 9 mph. The wind chill was 1 degree above zero.
The chance of snow remained at 100 percent and the weather service-issued hazardous weather statement remained in effect.
