Canton Township trustees will look to residents about the future of the fire department after they rejected two levies in 2012. Trustees have set two public meetings for later this month.
After two levy defeats in 2012, trustees want to discuss the future of the township fire department with local residents at two meetings to be held later this month.
Fire Cpt. Scott Johnson said trustees will use the meetings to determine what steps to take following the levy defeats, including a 3.5-mill permanent levy that lost by 29 votes following an automatic recount.
The department no longer staffs Fire Station No. 3 in Meyers Lake as a result.
The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 23, at the former Amos McDannel School, 210 38th St. SE, and at 9 a.m. on Jan. 26, at Fire Station No. 3, 3103 Parkway NW.
