  • WHAT IS IT? One of the newest streets in Jackson Township — Wales Crossing Street NW — runs east from Wales Avenue NW and ends with a cul-de-sac. The street will be the main thoroughfare in the new Wales Crossing condominium development.
HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN GOING ON? Universal Development Co. began efforts to develop the property early in 2011. The company, based in Girard, bought 63 acres of farmland from James Hixon, then applied for zoning changes. Road construction and land development began this fall, and developers now are working on permits for the first eight units.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? Developers plan for 188 units, or 47 buildings. Each building has four condominium units with an attached garage. Units will be constructed in phases, and more streets will be added as the development progresses. Plans call for the project to have a second entrance off Huckleberry Street NW. The project cost is estimated at about $19 million and could generate annual property taxes of more than $300,000.
