Akron Canton Airport unveiled its new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighter-Operations Facility on Friday.
Akron-Canton Airport celebrated Friday morning the opening of a new operations building that houses fire trucks and gear, snow removal equipment and other services.
The new building is at the southern end of the airport property, with access from Mount Pleasant Street NW. The operations office moved from a building north of the main terminal.
Airport officials are excited about the new facility, said Rick McQueen, president and CEO.
“Our operations, field maintenance and emergency response teams work as a cohesive unit, backing each other up when necessary,” McQueen said. “This new facility will allow them to be even better.”
U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci, R-Wadsworth, other elected officials and dozens of area firefighters joined in the building dedication.
Today, area residents can see the building during a community open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public can see firefighting, snow removal and other equipment and a get a view of the runways in action.
