A small deer caught in the headlights on Interstate 77 Thursday morning received a brief escort off the road as troopers positioned their cruisers for a “rolling roadblock.”
Troopers drove slowly down Interstate 77, positioning their cruisers around a small deer until it ran off into a wooded area near 38th Street NW.
Sgt. Leo Shirkey of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Canton post said dispatchers had received about 15 to 20 calls from motorists reporting the small deer on the interstate around 6 a.m. Thursday.
They conducted a “rolling roadblock” to protect the deer and other motorists by slowing traffic until it could get off the road, he said.
The escort lasted only a short time before the deer was able to make his way off the highway.
