  • NWS: Severe thunderstorm possible for Stark and other area counties

  •  The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for eastern Ohio including Stark, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties in this area.
    “Some of these storms may be strong to severe. The greatest threat will be from damaging winds and isolated large hail,” the weather service’s Cleveland office said on its website at www.erh.noaa.gov.
    Meteorologists expect the storms to break out “mainly after 5 p.m.,” the website said.
    At 2:30 p.m., skies were mostly cloudy at the Akron Canton Airport with a temperature of 83 degrees and winds out of the southwest at 14 mph. Gusts were listed at 30 mph.
    A hazardous weather statement issued Tuesday for the area remained in effect also for Holmes and Wayne counties, the weather service said.
