  • This season has proved to be interesting for boys golf coach Brian Tharp. With a team composed of four seniors and three juniors they have achieved a 4-2 record in the Suburban League. This puts them in second place overall.
"Our problem is that we can shoot either 154 or 168, depending on the day," Tharp said. "So far, we have had our ups and downs. But, fortunately for us,there have been more ups then downs."
The season started off on a good note as the team won the pre-season Suburban League tournament. Continuing to play well will give Green a shot at the league title, and possibly post-season play.
"They are a good group of kids, both on and off the course," Tharp said." They are competitive by nature and work hard, and definitely aren't slackers."
Senior Cody Conley is leading the team with four years of experience. Tharp considers Cody his most consistent player.
"So far I have had a pretty solid season so far, " Conley said. "I have been playing pretty well, especially in my 18-hole game. I am looking forward to the rest of the season."
Senior Jim Huntley is also working to lead the team and hopes to finish the season strong.
Alex Bindreiter joined the varsity team this year as a senior and has grown with the season.
"I started off sort of slow, but now I have settled down and am starting to get in the groove,” Bindreiter said. “I am starting to feel more comfortable with my swing and the team is playing pretty good. I am looking forward to the post season."
With the Sectionals coming up Green has a chance to go further. Tharp feels there is a good possibility that the team can do that.
"Even though we are a young team, the boys have varsity experience," Tharp said. "They play a lot in the off season and try very hard. I think we have a pretty good chance to make it into the top four in the Sectionals and go on to compete in the Districts."
