  • Three standouts from this past fall's Lake High School girls soccer team have announced their plans to continue their education while playing soccer in college.
    Lauren May, Kristen Conti and Janelle Wendorf each were starters on the 2011 Blue Streak soccer team that finished 13-2-3 overall and in second place of the Federal League. The team's marks set new records for success with the girls soccer program as they advanced to the OHSAA district semifinals last fall.

    May will be enrolling at Roosevelt University (Chicago, Il.) and play soccer for the Lakers. She was named the Blue Streaks Best Defensive Player and helped the team register 10 shut-outs, a new Lake soccer record. She was also selected 2nd Team All-Federal League and 2nd Team All-Stark County as a senior. Roosevelt is an NAIA college which competes in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The 2012 season will represent the inaugural season of women's soccer at Roosevelt.
    Kristen Conti
    Conti will attend Walsh University and play for coach David Renard and the Cavaliers. Walsh will be going to NCAA Div. II status in the fall of 2012. While in the Lake High School program, she established the school record for most goals in a single season with 26 while adding 10 assists for the 2011 season. She ranks third all-time in Lake girls soccer history with 49 career goals. For her efforts, Kristen was named 1st Team All-Federal League and 1st Team All-Stark County. She was also selected as Best Offensive Player by the team in 2011.
    Janelle Wendorf
    Wendorf will enroll at Heidelberg University in the fall and compete in soccer for the Student Princes and coach Nick Spell. Heidelberg competes in the Ohio Athletic Conference. She completed her senior year as being named one of the Blue Streaks team captains and helping the defense limit opponents to the lowest goal production (14 goals) in a single season in school history. She was also selected to play in the Stark county Senior All-Star game in November of 2011.
    Lauren May is the daughter of Tonya May of Hartville and Derek May of Akron. Kristen Conti is the daughter of Mary and Jim Conti of Hartville. Janelle Wendorf is the daughter of Judie and Jeff Wendorf of Hartville.
