Dianne Day was born and raised in Massillon but has made Jackson Township her home since 1998. Day currently serves as the president of the Massillon Woman’s Club, at Five Oaks, and calls the club “the Jewel of Massillon.”
“We are honoring the wishes of the McClymonds’ daughters, Edna and Ruth, by maintaining and cherishing their home, which was given to the women of Massillon in 1924,” Day said.
Five Oaks estate was built in 1892 for Mr. and Mrs. J. Walter McClymonds.
Day encourages women to join the club and be able to enjoy its many volunteer opportunities and fellowship with women of all ages. Members do not have to reside in Massillon.
Many of the estate’s visitors have made Five Oaks a part of their holiday tradition. Everyone is welcome to visit and give themselves a self-guided tour, walk around the estate and check out the gift shop.
What makes the return to the mansion year after year memorable is its constantly changing color scheme. Every year a new color is chosen and accented by decorations.
When visitors first step into the mansion’s hall, its sweeping staircase and stained glass windows awe them. Every room throughout the home’s three floors is elaborately decorated for the holiday.
This year, the holiday festivities at Five Oaks begin with a champagne and candlelit dinner Friday, Nov. 16, and Saturday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $30 and reservations are required.
Reservations are also required for a $20 lunch Sunday, Nov. 18.
No reservations are required for the Christmas Open House/Cookie Walk Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a free open house offering a basket raffle and an ala carte lunch.
All events and gift shop sales support operations and maintenance of the Historic Five Oaks, which is on the National Register of historic homes.
