  • Children of all ages found something fun to do at the seventh annual Freedom Fest held June 29 at Green's Boettler Park.
The younger crowd came for the inflatables and fun activities and the parents and grandparents came for the food and music. The event is a celebration of community and country and is planned by the staff of the division of parks and recreation.
It takes the better part of the year to organize
Freedom Fest kicks-off the July 4 holiday with fireworks, food and rock-til-you-drop music.
Akron resident, Jason Lafontaine said he and his crew grabbed some lemonade, french fries and did a little mechanical bull riding while visiting the festival.
Maybe the most popular area of the event is the children's area, filled with free fun activities including inflatables, mobile gaming, a bungee run flight simulator and potato sack races. Balloon art and face painting was also available.
Guests had the chance to take in an Akron Zoo display and a chain saw carving demonstration.
Advocating Child Safety and Protection (GASP) was on hand to provide fingerprinting for children and offer tips to parents to help protect their children from strangers.
Food included Stoddard's, Chick-Fil-A, The Perogie Lady, Italian sausage, corn dogs, lemonade and french fries.
Also, at the event were businesses set up offering information on products and services in the area.
In the evening, the music dial was tuned in to the Danny Milan Band performed a Billy Joel tribute concert while later in the evening Eagles tribute band, 7 Bridges Eagles entertained.
The evening usually is completed by a beautiful fireworks display, however, due to an oncoming storm the fireworks display was set off a little early and skydivers floated down from the sky shortly before dusk.
The annual event was sponsored by Summa Health System and Legends Sports Pub & Grill and supported by General RV.
