    It's made with just two ingredients: ice cream and self-rising flour. Mix, bake and you've got bread.
    Honest.
    It sounds too weird to be true. That's probably why it's become an Internet sensation. There are how-to videos on YouTube.com. The Huffington Post wrote about it. And the recipe is quickly being picked up by many of the online recipe sites. But it started with Taste of Home magazine.
    Taste of Home editor Jeanne Ambrose said the recipe was first submitted by a South Carolina reader to the Greendale, Wis.-based magazine in 2006. It was published in 2008 in Cooking for 2, a sister publication.
    For some reason, it's now gone viral.
    "The ice cream flavor is subtle. So if you make it, I suggest using a strongly flavored ice cream and throwing in some additions, like dark chocolate chips. A little sugar helps the flavors pop, too," said Ambrose.
    She tried the recipe with cinnamon ice cream and added blueberries. And then with Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby (vanilla malt ice cream with fudge and peanut butter), into which she threw some dark chocolate chips. When she used Haagen-Dazs bourbon pecan praline, she added a splash of bourbon. All of them, she said, were "fantastic."
    I tried to the recipe, too.
    First I made it, as the recipe below suggests, with butter pecan ice cream. Adding more pecans would have improved it. Then I tried mint chocolate chip. I should have added more chips. When I made it with strawberry ice cream, I added some chopped strawberries and a bit of lemon zest.
    They all turned out OK. But I don't think the recipe measures up to a traditional quick bread.
    What does ice cream bread taste like?
    With ice cream as a base, it seems like it should be really sweet. But it's not. It needs a shot of sugar and, like Ambrose suggests, some add-ins to boost the flavor. The texture is tender and moist.
    It doesn't seem like this quirky recipe should work. But think again.
    "Look at the ingredients in ice cream. You've got sugar, eggs, cream or milk, vanilla. Add the self-rising flour and you have leavening. It's got everything that's in a bread recipe," Ambrose said.
    She added that it's an ideal recipe for families to make together.
    "It's amazingly magical when you put it in the oven and then see what comes out."
