The Green Local School District has not submitted a safety plan to the Ohio Attorney General's Office since 2007, but is working to correct the situation.
The local school district has not submitted a safety plan to the Ohio Attorney General's Office since 2007, but is working to correct the situation according to Green Director of Operations Wendall Jackson.
"Technically we are not complying," Jackson over the phone. “However, the Attorney General's Office has been contacted and they know we have an existing plan. This plan will eventually be turned into the Attorney General's Office in the near future.”
While the district works to remain in compliance, officials emphasize that safety has always been a top priority at the schools.
Currently, Green is working with the Summit County Sheriff's Department on plans to make their Crisis Management Program more effective and up-to-date. This process has been going on for most of this year.
The priority on safety is also evident in recent investments made by the schools. Green has spent more than $500,000 on security vestibules and cameras at the high school and middle school, along with increasing security in all other buildings.
"When we found out that we were not in compliance with the Attorney General's Office we contacted them," Jackson said. "We were told to keep them updated and we have since been in regular contact with them. I don't know why something wasn't submitted back in 2007 because I wasn't in charge back then."
Throughout the past two years Green had made strides to increase security. Updated security vestibules at the high school and middle school are examples. In addition, there have been several presentations by Jackson at Board of Education meetings on safety and steps taken in the schools to improve security.
"I feel we are safer then ever," Jackson said. "We have plan, and we just need to submit it.”
