  • The Green Lady Bulldogs (3-3, 2-1) got off to a fast start and kept their foot on the pedal, defeating Copley 62-44 in Green Wednesday night.
Their attack was fueled by a suffocating defense that gave Indians ball handlers fits all night. They frequently had trouble getting the ball past half court due to Green’s full-court press.
“That was the gameplan, put some pressure on them and try to keep it uptempo,” said Green coach Tracy Miller.
Sophomore center Meghan Preston led the Indians with 11 points, as most of Copley’s offensive success came in the paint due to a distinct size advantage.
That advantage became a weakness with Green’s maximum pressure game plan as the big bodies weren't as adept when forced to dribble and make snap decisions with the ball. Green’s lead ballooned as Copley’s turnover total continued to mount.
“We came out and started pressing them hard in first, second and third quarters, and we got a nice lead,” Miller said. “Copley is a lot bigger than us, and so we had to come out and put the full-court press on them. I thought by the end of the game we wore them down a little bit.”
Erika Rector and Julia Guyton led the charge for the Lady Bulldogs with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
A good portion of Rector’s point total came from ball-hawking defense and converting in the open floor.
“Erika Rector, she’s our leader for sure. Lexi Teodosio played well in the post, and I thought our young guards Lilly Carson and McKenzie Black did a good job for us bringing the ball up the floor,” Miller said.
Green’s scoring contributions from a myriad of sources, as 11 different players added to the final total.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to carry this momentum over into a road game against conference foe Revere.
