  •  A Russell Avenue man told police that he received a check in the mail for $4,250 from a company in Ontario, Canada. To ensure the validity of the check, he contacted a person at the company who told him the check was good and all he needed to do was to deposit it in his bank account. After depositing the check and later making a $100 withdrawal on it, the man learned from his bank that the check was fraudulent. He was then told that his account would be frozen and that he had to deposit $300 to cover the withdrawal. Bank officials are investigating the incident.
