  • Four days of community fun kick off Wednesday, June 15, as Jackson Township opens the 2011 Jackson Community Celebration at North Park.
    “It’s celebration time in Jackson Township,” said David Ruwadi, the director of Jackson Township’s Parks and Recreation Department.
    The gates open Wednesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. In addition to rides, food concessions and games, enjoy free entertainment from the band LaFlavour from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The celebration will close at 11 p.m.
    “Bates Amusement Company is returning with their rides,” said Ruwadi.
    On Thursday, June 16, gates are open from 6-11 p.m. Thursday will feature Family Night with three different church bands performing, said Ruwadi.
    On Friday, June 17, gates open an hour earlier at 5 p.m. and will remain open until midnight.
     
    The car show, Cops and Rodders, will open at 5 p.m. Massillon Cable will feature Hair Paint Night. Registration for the 5K Night Glow begins at 7:30 with the race-walk beginning at 9:30.
    The kid’s half-mile fun run steps off at 9:15 p.m. Jimmy and the Soul Blazers, a group favorite, will perform 8:30 – 11:30 p.m.
    Saturday, June 18, is a fun-packed day starting off at 10 a.m. with a basketball tournament.
    The celebration kicks into high gear at 1 p.m. with Sports Night with Massillon Cable, the Celebration of Strength is from 1-6 p.m. Outlaw will perform 7 – 11:30 p.m. The fireworks display will close out the celebration Saturday night at dark.
    “We have good food this year,” said Ruwaid. “There’s a large variety – something for everyone.”
    Food concessions will serve guests all four nights and Saturday afternoon.
    The sponsors include Jackson Township, Massillon Cable, The Print Shop of Canton, Jackson Suburbanite, The Repository, the Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce and Baker Vehicle Systems.
    Thus far, the celebration committee has received donations from A/C Laser Technologies, Aparco Security Systems, Aqua Ohio, Aultra Administrative Group, Bair’s Polaris-Victory, Bellstores Marathon, Buehler’s Fresh Foods, Burnham and Flower Agency of Ohio, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Cee-B Glass, DeHoff Development Company, Dobransky Firearms, Employers Health Purchasing Corp., Fallsway Equipment Company, Findley Davies, Inc.
