  • For the 27th year, the Volunteers of Akron Children’s Hospital will present a magnificent display of more than 300 decorated trees, wreaths, miniatures and other holiday creations. The Annual Holiday Tree Festival, which is free and open to the public, will be at the John S. Knight Center in Downtown Akron from Nov. 22-30.
The Festival officially opens to the public on Saturday, Nov. 22, with Kids’ Day, including a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring a Miracle Child from Akron Children’s Hospital. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. Thanksgiving Day hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Proceeds generated by the Holiday Tree Festival, which come from the sale of the items on display, help to support patient care programs, equipment, medical research and education at Children’s Hospital.
An Evening of Enchantment, on Nov. 21 at John S. Knight Center, will give guests the opportunity to preview and purchase more than 300 magnificent trees and other holiday creations that will be on display during the 2008 Holiday Tree Festival.
A highlight of the evening is the return of the silent auction for decorated trees. Guests have the chance to bid on 10 specially selected trees during the event.
“A few years ago, all the trees were available for purchase through a silent auction,” said Heather Jalbert, 2008 Holiday Tree Festival chair. “In recent years, they were sold on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, we have decided to offer both.”
The silent auction will also include fabulous items such as travel packages, jewelry and more.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with hor d’oeuvres and cash bar. Bidding on silent auction items will also begin at 6 p.m. All other trees, wreaths, miniatures and holiday decor will be available for immediate sale. Major underwriter and donor awards will be presented after dinner, which will be promptly served at 7 p.m. Dinner guests will enjoy a four-course elegant dinner. For guests who prefer a later arrival, dessert only tickets are available to enjoy the Grand Dessert display at 8:30 p.m. Dinner reservations are $125 per person. Dessert only tickets are $30 per person.
All proceeds from An Evening of Enchantment and Holiday Tree Festival benefit Akron Children’s Hospital.
