A family loses its home as a fire breaks out in a Canton Township house.
While the residents sadly watched, township firefighters worked late Wednesday afternoon extinguishing a blaze at 3000 24th St. SE.
Fire damage appeared to be extensive at the 11/2-story frame house. When the fire broke out, the residents were not home.
A woman identifying herself as Nancy Bausher said she and her husband own the house. The house has been occupied by Bausher’s daughter.
Regarding the cause of the fire, “I have no idea,” Nancy Bausher said. “No one was home.”
The daughter, who lived in the house with her boyfriend and children, declined to gave her name. She was comforted with hugs from neighbors as she wept.
Canton Township Fire Department personnel were joined by Osnaburg Township Fire Department.
By late Wednesday afternoon, firefighters still were attacking the blaze from outside, and had not yet sifted through the house to identify a cause.
Regarding where the residents will live, “we have got plenty of family around, so we are good,” Nancy Bausher said.
