  • Deametrious A. St. John is officially a member of the Stark County Board of Elections.
Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has approved St. John’s appointment, to complete the unexpired term of Phil Giavasis. The county Democratic party’s executive committee had recommended St. John last month.
Giavasis resigned from the four-member bipartisan board because he’s seeking election this year as Canton Municipal Clerk of Court. Holding an elections board position at the same time would be a conflict of interest.
St. John, 53, of Plain Township, will complete Giavasis’ term, which expires Feb. 28, 2014. He’ll join Democrat Sam Ferruccio and Republicans William Cline and Curt Braden on the elections board.
Members are paid $16,693 a year.
