  • Coventry Township trustees meeting for Dec. 13

    • email print
  • KEY ACTION  Passed a motion to hire Rick Devenport, of Barberton, for the Road/Maintenance Department.
DISCUSSION  Trustees David Calderone and Gary Zoldesy voted in favor of the motion. Trustee Tom Seese did not. Seese said his responsibility as trustee was to review the résumés of all 28 applicants and felt many other more-qualified applicants were not recommended to the trustees to be reviewed for the position. Seese requested applications from current road department employees to review the hiring practices, where he found one of the requirements for the position of laborer truck driver is four years of heavy equipment experience. Seese said the training is performed regardless after a person is hired.
“I got an idea of what kind of people we hire, and ... we train them anyway, so why do they need that experience?” Seese said. “I am going to vote against it only because I do think there is resident from Coventry Township that is equally as qualified.”
Devenport was recommended by  Coventry Road Superintendent Lael Stouffer.
Devenport will begin after he passes all of the required pre-employment testing.
OTHER ACTION  A public hearing was held regarding a rezoning request for approximately two acres of land at 2694 S. Main St. and 2708 S. Main St. from Residential 1(single family residential) to Business 1 (business office district). Testa Eyecare Properties purchased the property at 2694 to turn it into an eye doctor practice. Immediately after the public hearing, trustees unanimously passed the rezoning request. The Summit County Planning Commission and the Coventry Rezoning Commission both favored this rezoning request.
    • Approved a request from the Coventry Fire Department for a hearing from the Ohio Division of Liquor Control for Thomas Arthur DBA Ball Busters at 2264 S. Arlington St. The Ohio Division of Liquor Control is requesting a hearing for new permit classes D3 and D3A. The fire department and the Summit County Building Department are having issues regarding some construction at the site.
    • Approved the purchase of road salt through the Community University Education Purchasing Association from Cargill Inc at an amount of $44.81 per ton.
    • Passed a motion appointing Seese and Zoldesy to the Volunteer Firefighters Dependent Fund for 2013.
UP NEXT  Meets Jan. 10 at 7:30 p.m., Town Hall.
