  • A man will spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend, a Jackson Township woman with whom he had a 6-year-old child.
Chad J. Cobb, 31, of Rittman, avoided a potential death penalty after reaching a plea deal Tuesday with county prosecutors.
Cobb pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, retaliation, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, possession of criminal tools and domestic violence.
He is not eligible for parole.
Cobb killed Ashley Biggs, 25, whose last known address was on South Boulevard NW in Jackson Township.
According to a statement from the Summit County Prosecutor’s office:
Biggs was working as a pizza deliver driver in Akron and Cobb had a female caller lure Biggs to an empty office parking lot in southern Summit County’s New Franklin on the evening of June 20.
Cobb used a stun gun on Biggs before strangling her to death with a zip tie. He then stuffed her body in the back seat of a car before abandoning the vehicle in a cornfield in Chippewa Township in Wayne County.
Cobb and Biggs were going through a custody battle over their 6-year-old daughter, according to court records. They never were married.
