There’s nothing like a hot toddy to fight off the chills of early March.
The seasons are changing rapidly. Soon the chill mists of March will be upon us, days requiring a hot toddies to warm our outlooks.
This one, a favorite in Columbus thanks to TV weather guy Jym Ganahl, is a strong dose of chocolate and dairy, a good use for surplus Valentine candy. For a quick froth, use your rotary stick blender in each mug.
BIG THAW TODDY
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate pieces
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 cups milk
1 cup half and half
buttered toast, cut into strips
Combine chocolate, sugar and 1/2 cup of the milk. Cook and stir over medium heat until the mixture boils. Reduce heat and stir in the remaining milk and half and half. Heat through, but do not boil.
Remove from the heat. Beat until frothy. Serve hot in mugs, topping each with whipped cream and a dash of cinnamon. Put buttered toast on the side for dunking.
Note: For a Toddy Alexander, substitute ground nutmeg for cinnamon and add a shot of rum or brandy to each mug.
