The Ohio Department of Education has recognized three Stark County Schools in its new Schools of Honor program.
Whipple Heights Elementary in the Perry Local School District was named a High Performing School of Honor, while Warstler and Barr Elementary Schools were named High Progress Schools of Honor.
The program is to recognize schools that have sustained high academic achievement and made substantial progress while serving a significant number of economically disadvantaged students.
Ninety Ohio schools earned the honor.
Whipple had during the past five years a 90 percent or better average proficiency for combined math and reading.
Warstler and Barr scored in the top 10 percent of schools as ranked by gains in combined reading and math proficiency in the past five years.
