  • Eugene W. “Gene” Wise, 90, passed away October 8, 2010 at Chapel Hill Community, Canal Fulton.  Born October 14, 1919 to Magdalenia (Metz) and Walter A. Wise.  He was a lifelong resident of Manchester (New Franklin).

  • Eugene W. “Gene” Wise, 90, passed away October 8, 2010 at Chapel Hill Community, Canal Fulton.  Born October 14, 1919 to Magdalenia (Metz) and Walter A. Wise.  He was a lifelong resident of Manchester (New Franklin).  
    A WWII veteran, Gene served with the Army Air Corp 429th Bomb Squadron in Europe.  He graduated from Kent State University in 1946 with a Bachelor’s degree in History and later earned a Masters in Education. Gene taught history from 1951 to 1979, retiring from Green High School. He also enjoyed coaching, teaching history and drivers’ education, traveling, sports and aviation. Before his affliction with Alzheimer’s disease, he was an active member of Manchester Trinity Chapel. 
    Gene is preceded in death by his wife, of 58 years, Mary Pauline “Polly” (Parks), sister Gertrude Greenlese, brother Henry Wise and grandson Nicholas Poole. He is survived by his son Randall Wise of Akron; daughter Robyn (Peter) Poole of West Chicago Illinois; grandchildren Charles, Miriam, Leah and Alexander and many nieces and nephews.
    We, his family, thank all the wonderful people at Chapel Hill Community for their service to him these last six years and to Mercy Hospice for being there at  the end of his life.  Our beloved father by word and deed helped student, stranger, and his own children over a long lifetime.  The hand of our Lord has taken him into Glory and we will meet him again soon.
    Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Schermesser Funeral Home 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd, Akron, OH 44319 (SR 619) with Rev. Darryl Moulder officiating.  Family and friends may call from 11 to 1p.m. prior to the service on Saturday.  Interment will be at East Liberty Cemetery.
