  • The Jackson Local Schools Board of Education approved hiring several new employees for teaching and other positions.
    Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto said that of the 17 new teachers, six are graduates of Jackson High School.
    The board hired the following new teachers during its monthly meeting June 26: Wendy Adams, fourth grade at Lake Cable Elementary; Larry Baker, Jackson Middle School seventh grade social studies; Chelsea Burton, Jackson Middle School, eighth grade language arts; Brendan Gannon, Jackson Middle School, seventh grade language arts; Joshua Hirschman, Jackson Middle School, eighth grade social studies; Jennifer Jackson, first grade at Lake Cable Elementary; Emma Lee Jarvis, second grade at Sauder Elementary,; Kaylee Jones, Jackson Middle School, seventh grade science; Kathleen Laughlin, Jackson Middle School, sixth grade science; Stacy Mann, first grad at Amherst Elementary; Craig McConnell, Jackson Middle School, physical ed, grades 6-8; Jennifer Muckley, Jackson High School, English; Cory Muller, fifth grade at Sauder Elementary; Devon Parks, first grade at Strausser Elementary; Shannon Pickens, kindergarten at Lake Cable Elementary; Hans Rydquist, third grade at Amerst Elementary; and Vanessa Schmidt, fifth grade at Sauder Elementary.
    Other business:
    • Accepted a donation of $1,084 from Gleaner Life Insurance Society to purchase a classroom amplifier system for hearing-impaired students.
    • Discussed a board retreat scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon July 18. Included on the agenda is discussing the results of the state standardized testing of Jackson students, utilities and facilities update and using Facebook as a communications tool for the district.
    • Approved a resolution for participating in the cooperative bus purchasing program.
    • Approved a resolution agreement with the Stark Educational Service Center.
    • Approved a Career/Technical Education collaborative agreement with North Canton, Lake and Plain Local Schools.
    • Approved an Acceptable Use Policy for both students and employees for using social media in the district.
    • Approved the student handbooks for both the high school and the middle school.
    • Accepted one retirement and 15 resignations including the following:
    • Thomas Holiday - Jackson High music teacher (effective end of 2011-12 contract year) and head band director (effective 2012-13 contract year) - retired
    The following resignations were accepted:
    • Joel Buzgan, Jackson High, assistant store manager, effective 2012-13 contract year
    • Kristina Caples, Jackson High, English teacher, effective 2011-12 contract year
    • Lynn DeLuca, Jackson High, senior class advisor and summer school coordinator, effective 2012-13 contract year
    • Kaitlyn Dunlap, Jackson High English teacher, effective 2011-12 contract year and assistant musical production, effective 2012-13 contract year

    • Noelle Waltenbaugh, Jackson High, guidance counselor and freshman mentor/guidance, effective 2012-13 contract year
      The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 24 at Jackson High School, 7600 Fulton Dr., NW.
