  • Summit County Recycler, Sherry Chlysta pledged to recycle more and won a $125 gift card as part of the “Begin the Trashformation” campaign. Her recycling efforts will transform trash into new products while saving natural resources and energy.

This campaign was brought to Acme Fresh Markets by, The Summit Akron Solid Waste Management Authority (SASWMA).  Throughout the past three months, all Summit County Stores, informed shoppers about recycling through the placement of in-store banners and shelf danglers.  These promotional pieces reminded shoppers that pop bottles and laundry detergent containers once recycled will be turned into new items such as park benches and/or carpet. Also recycling items such as wine bottles and/or jelly jars will help save energy and reduce waste that takes up space in Ohio’s landfills.

A sign-up to recycle box was also placed at customer service where shoppers could pledge to recycle more, and/or receive information about their communities recycling program while being placed in a drawing to win a $125 gift card.

As part of the campaign, SASWMA provided Sherry and others who “signed up to recycle” with information about correct items that go in the curbside recycling bin. “This type of commitment from residents will ensure successful recycling program for Summit County communities,” states Yolanda Walker, SASWMA’s Executive Director.

The Trashformation Campaign will resume in January, if you would like to learn more about the products your purchasing at the grocery store that are recyclable visit saswma.org and click on “Begin the Trashformation”.
